Gardening for Voices for Food (ONGOING OPPORTUNITY)

Nebraska Extension leads the Voices for Food (VFF) team in collaborating with local stakeholders and volunteers to address and reduce food insecurity in Dakota County. The Voices for Food project has worked to make food available in underserved communities and increase nutritional value of foods available in food pantries and agencies.

Voices for Food coordinated the efforts to grow and distribute, 19,493 pounds of produce in Dakota County. This program provided fresh produce to 4,413 participants in 2021. Participants received produce via the food pantries in Dakota County (First Lutheran Church, St. Paul Church and Dakota City Fire Station), Siouxland Community Health Center of Nebraska, Senior Center, and low-income apartment complexes.

Volunteers are needed every Thursday in the summer to do various tasks to maintain  two large grant funded gardens, that produce over 10,000 pounds of produce that all go to families in need.
